Nick Hurran, the director of the 2004 Brittany Murphy romcom, Little Black Book, has signed to direct a biopic of 60's pop music icon Dusty Springfield, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Responsible for hits like "Son of a Preacher Man" and "I Only Want to Be With You," Springfield's solo career continued on into the late 1990's. The screenplay has been drafted by Ray Connelly from a biography by Sharon David entitled "A Girl Called Dusty" (also the name of the singer's first album).

No timeframe is given for when the music biopic might see the light of day.
