Rashida Jones, Angelica Huston and Jim Parsons have joined the cast of Fox 2000 comedy The Big Year.
They join a cast that includes Rosamund Pike, JoBeth Williams, Brian Dennehy, Dianne Wiest, Anthony Anderson and Tim Blake Nelson. Kevin Pollak and Joel McHale are in talks to come on board as well.
Starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson, the David Frankel-directed film started shooting today. Howard Franklin wrote the script.
Based on Mark Obmascik's 1998 book "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession," The Big Year is about three men who try to outdo each other in a bird-watching competition to spot the rarest birds in North America. The rivalry is an allegory for the challenges each faces in his own life.
Jones ("Parks and Recreation") plays the love interest of Black's character, Huston's character captains ocean-going expeditions, and Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") plays the author of a popular avian blog.
