Tim Robbins has joined the cast of director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern at Warner Bros. Pictures, reports Heat Vision.

Robbins will play Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the movie's villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.

Ryan Reynolds stars as Green Lantern, with Blake Lively as the hero's love interest, Carol Ferris.

Filming is set to star in March in New Orleans. The studio is planning a June 17, 2011 release.

What I want to know is why the hell haven't Sarsgaard and Robbins played father and son before. I've always felt a resemblance.

This movie's coming out on my birthday, and it's going to be the best present ever.

Matthew Fox as Sinestro! Think about it!

I must have missed something, is Sinestro not in this or is he still a Latern throughout the film?

I think Sinestro will be a Green Lantern, and over the course of the film(s), we will see his fall from grace. That way, by the time the 3rd one comes out (because lets face it, everything happens in threes) the connection between Hal Jordan and Sinestro will become strong and we will get a sense of that dynamic. Really looking forward to this film.

A part of me wishes the Spider-man trilogy would have done this with Peter Parker and Norman Osborn. Alas, guess they can always do that for the new trilogy.

At least they have a script locked before shooting begins, unlike most superhero flicks. Didn't Robbins declined to play Howard Stark precisely because of the lack of script (or so I read)?

Jeff Bridges gave an interview recently about not having a script until several days into shooting Iron Man, which is a damn shame. Studios are more interested in locking a release date than locking a script these days, hopefully it's not the case here.
