Fox Developing Daredevil Reboot

February 5, 2010

In order to keep the movie rights to Marvel Comics' "Daredevil" under their belt, 20th Century Fox and New Regency are looking to develop a reboot of the sightless superhero with News Corp VP Peter Chernin producing and David Scarpa (The Day the Earth Stood Still) writing a script, according to Mike Fleming at Deadline Hollywood.

The original movie directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Ben Affleck in the title role (and his current wife Jennifer Garner as Elektra) was released almost exactly seven years ago and grossed $179.2 million worldwide.

This probably shouldn't come as too big a surprise as there has been talk of some sort of reboot ever since Disney bought Marvel last year, but this is the first confirmation that one is being actively developed.

It wasn't a completely terrible movie, but by no means was it great either. I hope a reboot is successful.

I like the first one... maybe that's just me. It had a certain tone to it that I loved.

I have no problems with doing a reboot of Daredevil. I hope this film will be a lot more true to the comics and actually do the character justice.

oh yes lets reboot Daredevil and give the script writing duties to the same scribe who penned "The Day the Earth Fell Asleep". God that remake with Keanu Reeves was just so dull and lifeless that people all around me in the theater were snoring 30 minutes into it. If they're going to "reboot" this, which seems to be Hollywood's favorite word now, please make it gritty and compelling. And while they're at it they should reboot Elektra as well. So much potential there and they just crapped all over that movie as well. :P

The original was better to watch with Rifftrax than by itself.
