Update: Sony's Screen Gems Moves Around Schedule

Sony's Screen Gems has made a few changes to its release schedule today. First up, the studio is moving comic book adaptation Priest back from Aug. 20 to Jan. 14, 2011 and it will now be released in 3D.

With that change, Screen Gems has pushed back Takers from May 15 to Aug. 20.

The studio has also pushed back The Roommate from Sept. 17 to Feb. 1, 2011. Taking up that Sept. 17 slot will now be Easy A.

Underworld 4 has been pushed back from Jan. 21, 2011 to Sept. 23, 2011 as well. The fourth installment was reportedly going be filmed in 3D, but that no longer appears to be the case.

UPDATE: Screen Gems provided us with the following statement regarding Priest:

Screen Gems' highly-anticipated motion picture "Priest" will be released in 3D in theaters nationwide on January 14, 2011, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution.

In "Priest," a warrior priest disobeys Church law by teaming with a young sheriff and a beautiful priestess. The three band together to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest's niece before they turn her into one of them. The film stars Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban, and Maggie Q, and is directed by Scott Stewart. The screenplay is by Cory Goodman, based on the graphic novel series "Priest" by Min-Woo Hyung. The film is produced by Michael DeLuca, Josh Donen, and Mitchell Peck.

Commenting on the announcement, Clint Culpepper, President of Screen Gems said, "We're thrilled with the way 'Priest' has come together, and we saw some spectacular sequences in the film that we all believed would be even more amazing in 3D. Scott, as well as the producers, couldn't be more excited to make the film available for audiences in both 2D and 3D."

Priest is going to be horrible, but I hope they release a trailer soon. Man, all this 3-D bull$h1t. Avatar wasn't successful because of the 3-D. It was successful because of James Cameron. But getting back to Priest, it's going to be nothing like the Manwah, so why even bother doing 3-D to it? Legion was horrible, and I bet this, coming from the same director, is going to be the same situation. January is the dead month for movies. But at least give us a teaser to let us know if it's going to seriously be horrible, or if there's a small sliver of hope.

wells said sfx....i remeber when i read that description for legion it sounded pretty sweet....then i saw the trailer and my hopes went down...i have hope for priest now...january is usually the dead month however book of eli was pretty good....i liked it...hopefully january 2011 will have a film like that which comes out

@sfx, Avatar was absolutely successful because of the 3D! Im not saying it would have bombed or anything, it wouldnt have. However, the extra ticket price for the 3D is absolutely the reason that Avatar is breaking records. When it comes to actual butts in seats, Avatar is still like 23rd or something? 3D is the reason that crappy movies (Im not talking Avatar - I meant more in the vein of My Bloody Valentine) make millions of dollars so of course the studios are going to keep doing it. And, really, I dont get all the hate for 3D. Personally, I have a fantastic digital theater that I go to that has a great 3D system (not RealD) and I pretty much always have a fantastic experience, even with movies like The Final Destination. I understand why they make the movies in 3D and I cant hate for that. Can someone explain it to me?
