Ghost House Developing Alien Invasion Film

Source:Variety

Variety reports that Ghost House Pictures has made a deal with Uruguayan commercials director Fede Alvarez to direct his pitch for an alien invasion film.

Alvarez scored his million-dollar deal based on the heat generated by "Ataque de panico!" (Panic Attack), a four-minute, 48-second short about an apocalyptic robot attack Alvarez directed through his commercial production house for less than $500 (You can watch the short below).

After Alvarez pitched an original idea for an alien invasion idea to the Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi, Ghost House closed a deal with Alvarez that guarantees him a six-figure holding deal to wait while Ghost House hires a high-end screenwriter to turn the idea into a feature. The six-figure deal will be applied against a seven-figure fee if Ghost House makes the film.

Raimi will produce with Ghost House partner Robert Tapert, with Vertigo's Roy Lee and Doug Davison also to be involved in producing capacities.

Even at $5K, I'm still impressed. Narrative wise, it's nothing new. Still, worth talking to the guy after seeing that.

$5000 goes a long way when people work efficiently and unselfishly. Also when Bulls*^t actors don't steal half the film's budget. Bring this man to Hollywood. The narration may not be new, but at least there was narration. That three and a half minute short had more story than Transformers 1 and 2 combined! P.S. District 9 was a great film.

OK, so it may not be the most original idea, but clearly this guy knows how to manage money when it comes to making a film. I hope he gets to make his invasion movie. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
