Producers Joel Kastelberg and Moonstone Entertainment's Etchie Stroh are re-launching the "Howling" franchise as The Howling: Reborn. Variety says that former studio marketing executive Joe Nimziki will make his feature directorial debut from his own script.

The film is scheduled to start shooting in February for a Halloween release, with plot details under wraps.

Directed by Joe Dante, The Howling was released in 1981 and spawned six sequels. Dee Wallace-Stone starred as a news anchor stalked by a serial killer who turns out to be a werewolf.

Steve Lane and Bob Pringle, who served as executive producers on the original, will also executive produce The Howling: Reborn.

just as long as the werewolves keep their shirts on and steer clear of any shiny vampires.

I don't want to see another sequel or prequel. They need to remake or restart it from the start. The smiley face serial killer storyline at the beginning needs to be stretched longer. Hollywood will mess it up and waste a good opportunity.

Well, this is actually one remake I can get behind.....the originals aren't exactly memorable (except maybe for the bad effects by today's tsandards)....I think this could turn out pretty awesome

That´s the way you do it, a new sequel, not a lame a$$ remake. F@ck Michael Bay.

The Howling needs no remake. That movie is perfect.

As long as they keep it Rated R and not dumb it down and try to cash in on todays Twitards. And also the special effects for the wolf transformation better not be Mickey Mouse like New Moon's CGI.

If they follow the book it was based on, then it will blow the others away
The howling was one of the scariest books I read as a young man
