New Moon Breaks Dark Knight's Single Day Record

After setting a new record for midnight openings with $26.27 million at 3,514 theaters, Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: New Moon has also broken the record for a single day, earning $72.7 million on Friday at 4,024 theaters. The previous single day record of $67.2 million was held by The Dark Knight.

It looks like The Dark Knight's 3-day record of $158 million may be in jeopardy now as well.

In related news, 'Rick' told us that posters for the third film in the "Twilight" series, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, are already in theaters and you can check out a photo below. That film, directed by David Slade, hits theaters on June 30.

Dark Knight's record was always going to go sooner or later. Something will come along and beat New Moon too in a few years when ticket prices go up.

Eclipse is my favorite book of the series so I am looking forward to the movie! New Moon was amazing, so true to the book. I wish people would read the books or do some research before they leave nasty comments. This series was actually not written FOR young adults/teenagers. It was written by a then 27 year old woman who wanted to explore the concept of 1st love after she experienced a dream. It just so happened that in her dream the "vampire" was 17 years old. She wrote this book for herself and later decided to share it with the world. It was her agent and then publishing company that decided that the book should be geared towards young adults. But I am 27 years old, my mother is 55, and my friend Jon-- YES a guy-- absolutely enjoyed this series.

Not everyone is going to or has to like it, but why people leave nasty comments is beyond me.

this sucks that a movie that is not nearly as worthy to break the dark knights record actually breaks it, but i guess we can expect anything else with the ticket prices and how crazy these girls are for this stupid movie.

I never saw this series, the record won't be broken. With something like this that I didn't go see, it will be way too frontloaded and will fall short of the record

****!!!!!!!! In my opinion there are a few that will reclaim the tiotle Batman 3, HP7 Part 1 or 2, Pirates 4, The Hobbit 1 or 2 maybe even Thor or Avengers. I do not think our time at the throne has perished "We'll be back!!"

People leave nasty comments about because movies they don't like because that's what you do when you see a movie you don't like... just like all artistic impressions, not everyone can/would express criticism eloquently.

Like me. I think the movies/ book/ stories are retarded, over the top cheese designed to get pre-teen girls all hot n bothered.

My opinion, my critic. All "artists" should welcome it.

PS. I guess where none of these beefcake werewolves own too many shirts, huh? Not hating, just saying.

Records are made to be broken no matter th quality of the record breaker. Sound to me like the 3 day record is going down also. Can't compete with teenage girls. They will see it multiple times and they put fanboys to shame. In the end...who cares. As long as a movie I like does well nothing elese matters to me. Good for New Moon. We need more of tat kind of passion nowadays. It doesn't appeal to me but I'm in the minority. Oh Mia, I wouldn't encourage the fanboys to read the novels. If they do it will make it even worse. I was asked to read one and I did. Very poor writing in my opinion(hell, go ask Stephen King. He had a few things to say about her writing). Bbut if it gets people to read that normally don't, its a start
