Producer Provides Update on Silent Hill 2

November 19, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com talked exclusively to Silent Hill producer Don Carmody about the possible sequel to the video game adaptation. Here's a clip:

"I think we need to make it a little more accessible to the movie-going public," he says frankly. "Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It's a connoisseurs' game. It has its own, rabid fan base. They're not cheap, these things. You have to appeal not only to the gamers, you have to appeal to a wider audience. So we have to get some story in there that helps explain a bit more. I think that's all happening. Of course, [the story] is going to happen years later and the main character - without giving too much away - is much older and representative to the movie-going public which is in that age group."

It sounds as if they are going to go more mainstream and ruin the franchise. The first was true to the game, and probably the best video game adaptation ever made. Uggh, don't ruin the film please.

Oh I loved the game. The first film wasn't gory enough for me but I agree with @Cyclone, the first one was one of the best movie adaptations of a game ever...EVER!!

I agree that the first movie was as close to the source material as any video game adaption ever was, but I would love to see the next one be creepier and bloodier.

If they're stating that the main character is much older and that some years have passed, that could only me Chris is going to Silent Hill to look for Rose or, somehow, Sharon got out and is adventuring as Heather. Either way, it would still follow lines drawn by the original stories.

But one thing that would make me go bat-**** crazy with excitment would to go to the theater, sit through some previews, and hear one trailer begin with the line, "In my restless dreams, I see that town... Silent Hill." Throw in some quick images of Chris and some creatures and you guarantee that the audience for the first film will return for more.

Ugh. Theyre gonna stray from the story more than they did in the first. They already added characters that dont exist in the game. The only resemblance it'll have to the game is that it'll have characters by the same name. Its gonna turn into garbage like the Resident Evil movies.
