Johnny Depp Joining Angelina Jolie in The Tourist

Johnny Depp is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in The Tourist, which is targeting a February production start.

Depp would play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is replacing Sam Worthington (upcoming Avatar), who dropped out over creative differences, as has director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) is in early talks to take over the director's chair.

At one time, Bharat Nalluri was attached to direct with Tom Cruise in the lead role. Charlize Theron was also attached to the project for a long time, but was replaced by Jolie recently.

Julian Fellowes wrote the original script; Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff did rewrites.

so basically they just keep replacing mediocre actors with good ones, and now they're getting a good director. so they pretty much just turned a guaranteed snore fest into a potentially interesting movie, nice

The current script to this movie must have vastly improved to be getting Depp and Cauron interested. Because the draft I read of this movie was lame. But with Depp potentially coming onboard they must have a current kick ass script.

Worthington was obviously forced out of the role. Normally an actor has creative differences with a director. If he and the director are both leaving, I doubt it would be due to creative differences.

What a duo.... Can't wait to see this one..All Johnney Depp needs to now is sign for the Riddler in Batman 3.. He would have a great year!!
