Paranormal Activity Sequel May Happen

November 3, 2009

Viacom's Paramount Pictures is looking to make a sequel to Paranormal Activity, which cost less than $15,000 to make and has earned a massive $84.6 million in theaters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, CEO Philippe Dauman said Tuesday morning in Viacom's earnings call that the movie has been one of those surprise hits that comes along only rarely.

Given that a follow-up release wouldn't have the same element of surprise as "Paranormal," it will be key to craft a smart approach to a sequel, he said. "Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach."

Haven't studios learned anything from Blair Witch 2 it's not smart to continue mock documentaries with a regular approach to film making that's going to destroy everything people liked about the original film.

Why spend those profits on a sequel? TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN.

Just no. When will the sequel train ever derail? What's next, halloween 2? Oh, wait. And also he said that they have to take a smart approach to the sequel. Yea, that's funny, that has never happened and never will. Well, to every one, but pixar. Pixar has crafted that trait, to make a smart sequel. Maybe they should hold like a how to make a smart sequel seminar for all the film studios. And first in line, will be michael bay.

Why wouldn't they; that's easy money as long as they don't make a Blair Witch 2. I think they shouldn't change the budget much at all. Let's say they spend 100K this time, how would it not get to at least 10 million. No investment company would turn down that IRR. Remember that this isn't the studio's baby; they bought it.

Make the sequal. I'm tired of everyone crying about everything that Hollywood does. If it's good, then fine. If it sucks, then at least they tried.

I gotta tell you the first one was wayyy too hyped up. Talking about the scariest movie since Exorcist. Quarantine was scarier than this movie. Seriously this movie was not scary.

wow...even the Viacom CEO acknowledges that a surprise hit like this "comes along only rarely". But hell that won't stop him from making a sequel that will truely fail. Enjoy the tons of profit you made.

Oh yeah..."Our team will come up with the right creative and marketing approach." Stop trying to come up with a way to TRICK people into seeing this movie. Just make a GOOD movie, and people will see it.

The only real plausibility I could see for a sequel is if the characters woke up and realized they were pretty high from smoking the weed the previous 21 nights before, cause the original had no real scares. One of the worst films of 2009.

Cool. This is a one-way ticket to destroy a really good movie.
