Martin Campbell Talks Green Lantern Effects

Green Lantern director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, GoldenEye) told Empire magazine (via Coventry Telegraph) they've got their work cut out in bringing the comic book to life.

"It's daunting," he said. "Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly."

Campbell said that a lot of the effects shots work will concentrate on the Green Lantern's power ring. "It's energized by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe. From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

Ryan Reynolds will play the title role in the action-adventure, which Warner Bros. Pictures will release on June 17, 2011.

There has to be some space combat though, hasn't been done well in a long time. They should be giving us a tour of our galaxy with special effects mixed with images from the Hubble. Sinestro and Green Lantern fighting off near the sun or the rings of Saturn!!

Is there any other way to do a Green Lantern movie? I mean, people flying around through space (minus a space ship) would be pretty hard to do for real...

Finally a Green Lantern film. I CANNOT WAIT. What makes it even better, It's Hal Jordan!! Not one of the others. I could've lived with it being about Kyle, but any of the other two would have been just stupid! (Not counting Alan Scott as there's no way they'd do a Golden Age film now)

Ryan Reynolds is not my choice but I'm willing to give this movie a shot. I've been wanting a GL movie for years and now we've got a respectable director on board.

Hey, I didn't think Heath Ledger could've pulled off The Joker when I first heard he got the spot. I'll wait until the film comes out before I judge.
