The Weinstein Company has released the new trailer for director John Hillcoat's The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Kodi Smit-McPhee.

The Road is the big-screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. It is the story of a man (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world. The film opens in theaters on November 25, 2009.

It's a general rule that the book is always better then the adaptation. While I feel this will probably hold true for this, the film still has great potential.

The book, while narratively brilliant IMO, was also very visual by nature. The film HAS the opportunity to make a visual masterpiece along with using the books great narrative. Thats two fantastic qualities that this dark and bleak film should have.

John Hillcoat's The Proposition was both a visual and narrative masterpiece, and probably the closest western to channel Blood Meridian in tone (Another McCarthy novel) He has the skill to do The Road justice. So personally, I can't wait to see what he's done here.

Movie looks great but that trailer is terrible. Worst music choice ever. Its like they wanted to attract middle aged people who like Forrest Gump so they prettied up a reasonably depressing film.
