Salles and Rivera Team on American Rust

The Motorcycle Diaries duo of Walter Salles and Jose Rivera will direct and write the script, respectively, for American Rust. Scott Stuber (Couples Retreat, The Break-Up) has acquired film rights to the debul novel from Philipp Meyer.

The story centers around two longtime friends from an economically depressed steel town in Pennsylvania whose dreams of escaping to California are dashed when they're implicated in a crime.

Variety says the novel was recently short-listed for the 2009 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize.

Never seen "the Motorcycle Diaries", but this sounds funny. But I'll wait for the trailer.

Uh, WCB, don't let Scott Stuber's credits mislead you. The Motorcycle Diaries wasn't a comedy and American Rust won't be either. It will definitely be a drama. The book is great and hopefully Walter Salles can make it a great film.

I must say I loved the Motorcycle Diaries. I saw on a whim and that it was just amazing. One of those films that just makes you feel good after seeing it. If American Rust is even close to that it will be great and I look foward to it alot.
