Raimi to Get Back to Basics for Spider-Man 4

October 16, 2009

Director Sam Raimi was interviewed in the print edition of DVD & Blu-ray Review (via the Coventry Telegraph) and was asked about Spider-Man 4.

Asked about complaints that there were too many villains in Spider-Man 3, he said: "I think having so many villains detracted from the experience. I would agree with the criticism."

Raimi added that he had learned some new lessons and storytelling tricks from his last film, Drag Me to Hell. "I think I've learned about the importance of getting to the point and the importance of having limitations, and I'm hoping to take that into a production where I'm actually allowed to explore with more of the tools to pull it off with a little more splendor.

"I hope I don't lose that edge that I've just found. That would be my approach to 'Spider-Man 4': to get back to the basics."

I liked Spider-Man 3 as well as the first 2, but I'm glad Raimi is taking a more simplistic approach. This should be great.

Too many villains - yes. But take a slightly more serious tone to the film this time. Also I want to see a more adult spider-man not Parker still feeling geeky and awkward - he should be pretty confident, and cocky as Spider-man.

I hope they do "Kraven's Last Hunt" storyline. It could have the Lizard which we've been waiting for. So Kraven and the Lizard and that's all. Also, Bruce Campbell HAS TO PLAY KRAVEN.

No more Peter-MJ soap opera too. The less of MJ and more of a villian story. Carnage would be great and darker which I think fans want.

I think that all Spider-Man films were great. Maybe 3 was a little bit too much of everything, but it was quite entertaining. But is is obvious that part of the problem was the studio pushing to introduce Venom in the film. Raimi rules!
