Burg Talks Twisted Pictures' Texas Chainsaw Massacre

October 14, 2009

Last week, it was announced that Twisted Pictures ("Saw" films) were closing a deal to take over the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise. ShockTillYouDrop.com got a chance to talk to producer Mark Burg today about the deal. Here's a clip from the interview:

"What we're going to do with it is bring it to 2010," says Burg. "Make it current day and come up with a new story that takes some of the basic plot points, if you will, and make it a current day movie. I don't want to make another Chainsaw in the '70s, that doesn't thrill me."

I thought the re-make of the first movie was set in the "current" date? I'm not sure how they can move this along that make it interesting.

Another remake or relaunch or re-whatever...Hollywood obviously has no original stories to tell anymore...Next thing you know in 10 years or less, we'll be seeing a remake of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight....

Nah, it was set in the 70's. But one would be hard pressed to tell that because they were more concerned with the main characters looking "hot" than have them wear proper 70's attire. Lots of low-rise jeans in that one, which didn't really come around until the late 90's.

Yasmi, which proves that remakes/relaunches actually do work since that exactly what those movies are you mentioned.

@D Train:
I also thought the original remake (sounds ridiculous) was set in current time... I don't recall there being any real distinction in the movie that would make the year matter anyway.

Cellphones and the internet in Leatherfaces house. The first remake was bad enough. Anyway the whole concept of TCM was that you are in the middle of nowhere. Without contact with the civilized world. It does not work in todays age.

Hey, people, if you want a REAL reboot of this series, why not take it to the future? with a laser-chainsaw wielding leatherface? oops, didn't Jason X did just that? sorry, but horror industry is losing original ideas day by day

i just had a class where daniel pearle, the cinematographer for the original and the remake, came in and talked about his work on this franchise. it was really interesting. I wonder if he'll have anything to do with this one too
