I actually think this looks great, every movie does not have to be super smart... this is just a fun action/disaster movie... get a grip people

Hey, it seems the movie doesn't take itself too serious - which is good in my opinion. I would definately prefer another easy-going Independence Day with crazy odd characters than an overserious and thereby ridiculous Day After Tomorrow.

I am not sure what to believe about the whole 2012 phenomenon, but this movie sure seems to make light of what has the potential to be a cataclysmic disaster of biblical proportions. 9/11 will pale in comparison. Emmerlich's film - while an orgy of eyepopping CGI F/X - doesn't seem to capture the true horror of what a "End Time" catastrophe would amount to. The acting and dialogue in this film looks like an afterthought to all the giant tsunamis, buildings and highways crashing unto each other, meteor showers, etc. Too bad. If 2012 does come to fruitation, the massive worldwide destruction will be no match to the mental, emotional, and spiritual toll on us all.

If it's the "end of the world," then how are there survivors?

Maybe the twist is that there isn't going to be any survivors and the whole world is destroyed, ha ha ha ha ha. Still, me likes a good disaster movie.

Or... ya know.. could just be that the calendar starts back over at 1... and.. nothing happens. How seriously do you take something that could very well be nothing?? I think the tone for this film is apt.

I like to see some movies that don't take themselves too seriously are are just there for the sheer spectacle of the whole thing. This is what this movie is trying to be, just a dumb bit of fun that if looked upon that way, should be quite enjoyable. The problem is that when independence day came out alot of people where blown away by the special effects. Yes they have not aged that well in parts but at the time it was great. Never before had we seen the world destroyed with such realism. With this movie however, even though the effects may technically be better, they just don't seem to be as believeable now. Maybe it's because audiences are getting wiser to more sophisticated effects at a pace that is out-running the developement of special effects. Effects nowadays seem to be just cost effective ways to get a thrill and hopefully large box-office takings from a bad script. Directors seem to be getting lazy. What happened to the days when they really wanted to fool us into believing that what we are seeing is real using a mixture of ground breaking special effects and good direction, thats the key to this kind of dumb fun. In that respect a movie like Jurassic park was a complete success but I think this movie is gonna fail.
