Chris Pine in Talks to Play Jack Ryan

Paramount Pictures is negotiating with Chris Pine (Star Trek) to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels, reports Variety.

The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept.

Pine would be the fourth actor to play Ryan. Alec Baldwin originated the character in 1990's The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford played him in 1992's Patriot Games and 1994's Clear and Present Danger, and Ben Affleck played Ryan in 2002's The Sum of All Fears.

Pine is separately in talks to team with director D.J. Caruso in the Paramount drama The Art of Making Money, early next year. He stars in the upcoming Tony Scott thriller Unstoppable with Denzel Washington.

He's a little young, but it might be good. He sure looks and sounds young though. Hmmm.

Hunt for Red October was great, as were Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. I like Ben Affleck, but The Sum of All Fears just plain sucked. All movies derived from books stray from their namesake at points, but Sum did it to the point where I couldn't even see the book in the movie anymore.

Perfect choice! I was having a discussing with my father on Sunday about who could play Jack Ryan next and we couldn't think of anybody!

Ryan is an ex-Marine turned analyst so as I put it, "He needs to be able to fight, but get beat up because its been a while".

I say again, I'm down with Pine taking this on. He was really good in Star Trek

Not sure about this. But, Pine would be a great Steve Rodgers AKA Captain America. All he needs to do is, add a little weight and muscle. Pine is so handsome and cute

I wish they would hurry up and do a "Rainbow Six" movie...with George Clooney as John Clark.

Will they ever make a Without Remorse movie? John Clark could be the new Jason Bourne. And regarding Pine I just want another Jack Ryan movie. I don't care who plays him, just make the damn movie.

He can't play Captain America, he already played "Captain Kirk;" that's just too much captain for one man...

The problem with the franchise is that they cast everything backwards based on the book sequence. Ben Affleck was OK and could have done Red October, followed by Alec Baldwin in Patriot Games/Clear & Present Danger and then maybe Harrison Ford for Sum of All Fears.

if he is going to do this...he needs to sign on for every single jack ryan movie they make. too many actors playing him ruined the quality of the movies on a series basis.
