Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich announced today, via the video below, that the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3D double feature release, which was supposed to be in theaters for just two weeks, has been extended longer. The special release has earned $22.8 million since hitting theaters on October 2.

Unkrich also announces in the video that "The Flight of the Conchords" star Kristen Schaal voices a new character in Toy Story 3, but he wouldn't reveal what character it is. Blake Clark is doing the voice for Slinky this time, taking over from his friend Jim Varney, who passed away in 2000.

They are joining Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Estelle Harris, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, R. Lee Ermey, Jodi Benson, Ned Beatty, Michael Keaton, Timothy Dalton, Jeff Garlin, Bonnie Hunt and Whoopi Goldberg in the sequel, opening in theaters on June 18, 2010.

Blake is exactly the guy I figured would voice Slinky. His voice is near identical to Varney's

jared-

I'm one of those who has The Incredibles at #2 of my PIXAR Top 3. And while I love Incredibles, I do not see the need to put a sequel out to satisfy those who keep saying more. Fans can't just be satisfied with what they have, they need more. Sad, really. Makes me want to pull an Edna Mode and swat some with a rolled up newspaper like she did to Helen.

I stand by my guns that if Brad Bird has a story that he feels would be...well, incredible...then I'd be more apt to see a sequel.

Otherwise, these people who are gonna be all excited are then gonna turn into the disgruntled fan-persons who saw 'Episode 1,' 'Indy 4,' and 'Spider-man 3,' and then when they don't get the sequel they wanted, will demand a 3rd Incredibles as an apology for their disappointment.

Oh man. I'm glad the 3D double feature is extended but my friends and I juggled a lot of stuff around to see it tonight thinking it was our last shot. Grrr... lol. It was lots of fun. Not much at all of 'pop out at you' stuff but I was quite impressed with the level of 3D accomplished.

Let's face it: it was always planned to be played for more than 2 weeks in the cinemas. The 2-week stuff was just to secure many fans will rush to see it.
