Robert Rodat Penning Warcraft Movie

MTV alerted us that Sam Raimi revealed to them in a phone interview last week that Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot screenwriter Robert Rodat is writing the script for the Warcraft movie, a project Raimi is expected to take on after Spider-Man 4. Here's a clip:

The aim is to adapt the game, rather than a previously conceived story written within that world. "We want to be really faithful to the game," Raimi said. "We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."

You can read more of what Raimi had to say about the adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's video game franchise here.

Sadly for this film or any other ROdat writes, he would be more aptly described as the writer of "The Patriot". "Saving Private Ryan" had numerous uncredited contrbutions for Frank Darabont, Scott Frank, and the actors.

it should be about Arthas Menethil.. and the movie should end with him becoming a death knight..

I hope it's no longer from the Alliance perspective like originally thought.
More than anything though I hope they incorporate the Burning Legion and the Lich along with the Horde and Alliance. Maybe even a lil Scarlet Crusade could fit in there somewhere

I'm sorry but after playing the game for 5 years now the last thing I want from a Warcraft movie is for it to be any thing like World of Warcraft.

If Blizzard/Activision will have any say on the story, and they will, it will be as disappointing as the last 2 years of WoW. The story telling in the game has fallen completely through the floor and if the movie is going to move in that same direction then they should just stop right now and save the money for a project thats worth the time.

to do this movie right, to tell the whole story, it needs to be a 9 hour epic movie!! they need to spend like $500,000,000 to make this.. it needs to be the bigest movie of all time!! in order to be done right! if they don't take the time to tell both sides of the story mostly HORDE!!! then there is no point in making the movie..

I have always thought they should make it an animated movie using the same sort of animation that is used in the World of Warcraft cinematics. It is quite good and done very well. But they need to start at the beginning and if it does well make other movies.

THIS IS BULL****! THIS BETTER BE MAGICAL AND NOT SOME ****ING LOTR **** WITH NO MAGIC! I want to see Color! Amazing landscapes and skyscapes, with stars! Also I want to see a multitude of magic and spell casting not just war, I want to see stuff like we see i the opening cinematics of the Warcraft Games! If this is not done properly we'll be able to tell as soon as the trailer hits! ALSO, WTF is Metzen doing get Metzen to write it! He's the bloody Loremaster! Don't need some gy who writes about Real life war we need someone with Vision of the universe! Not impressed!
