Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Going 3D in '11

October 9, 2009

ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting that MGM Studios has decided to push Joss Whedon's anticipated horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, directed and co-written by Cloverfield's Drew Goddard, back nearly a year, from its original release date of February 5, 2010 to the new date of January 14, 2011.

Shock has learned exclusively that the reason MGM is doing this is because they're spending six months to convert the movie to 3D due to the phenomenal early response to the movie from test screenings, hoping to add another dimension to the horror.

There is nothing else scheduled for that date, which is the four-day weekend to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, although the fourth "Underworld" movie is currently scheduled to open one week later.

Seriously!? Why the need for every single movie to be in 3D? Just release the movie in 2D! They should wait for general audience response before putting in the extra money for 3D.

Well it's apparently the IN THING now isn't it i mean for the past 2 years the IN THING was prequels and sequels. Now it's 3D.
3D doesn't bother me much because when the movies are released to DVD i always watch the 2D version and never the 3D one. That's why i will not go to the movies to watch them i wait for the DVD.

You all do realize that with every 3D release, there are usually 2D options so if you don't want to pay extra or you don't like 3D, you're able to see it "normally"?

if the response was so phenomenal why not just release it in 2D. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

I agree with Jake. Leave it alone if it has "phenomenal" reviews.

Someone help me, my head hurts, there's too much stupid here to process. Seriously, this 3D crap just has to go. It's a worthless gimmick that does not increase the quality of a film whatsoever. And to think that this entire production was delayed a year just to convert it to 3D makes me weep openly for the film industry.

It's hard to believe that they'd move a film that tested "phenemenally" from a prime February release date to the siberia of mid-January 2011. Even if they wanted to make it 3D and need six months to do that, why not release it in the Fall of 2010 in the very lucrative Fall movie going season...if it's such a good film. Something's very wierd here.

I wanna see this movie. A 3D gimmick won't make me want to see it more...

It is too expensive for me. Hopefully there will be a 2D option.
