Disney Goes From Reel to Real

October 7, 2009

Disney has preemptively picked up Reel to Real, a family fantasy pitch by Eric Saiet and Andrea Maywhort-Scully, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story involves a magical film projector.

Saiet and Maywhort-Scully, based in New York, are newcomers to the screenwriting trade though, in Saiet's case, not to the industry. He acted as a youngster (his first credit is Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and has had dozens of TV appearances.

Lemme guess: And whatever film it plays, the characters step out of the movie and into the real life.

I saw this concept in an episode of the Japanese anime 'Urusei Yatsura' from the 80's.

Though it was an alien projector that caused the film characters to come to life.

Or maybe this will be like that bad family comedy 'Stay Tuned,' where the mom and dad get sucked into the TV.

Will any kids even get the play on words in the title? Has anyone under 20 ever seen a reel to reel projector before?
