Ian McKellen on The Hobbit

Rotten Tomatoes got a chance to talk to Ian McKellen at the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain where he said he's looking forward to getting to play Gandalf the Grey again in The Hobbit.

"Grey Gandalf is my favorite," he said. "Peter Jackson's too, we always preferred Gandalf the Grey. Peter liked him because he got down and dirty. He slept in the hedgerows; he was closer to the earth and not quite so spiritual. He's also funnier -- he's got more variety to him. We thought there was more scope in that Gandalf."

The first of the two "Hobbit" films to be directed by Guillermo del Toro is hitting theaters in December of 2011, followed by the second in December of 2012.

It wouldn't be the same without him. What is funny is that McKellan was making himself act older/talk older last time around to play Gandalf the Gray. He might not have to act this time. Can't wait to see his performance. There should be movies made just with him in mind. He just has an awesome speaking voice. How cool would it be if he narrated your favorite audio book?

Honestly I can't think of anyone else that could plat Gandalf other then McKellan. It just wouldn't be quite right without him.

Can't wait!! Ian McKellen was perfect as Gandalf. When reading the Hobbit again all I could picture in my mind was him.
