No Plans for New Superman Movie

With the formation of DC Entertainment, many thought a new film in the "Superman" franchise would be one of the big things the company would concentrate on. Not so, DC Entertainment Diane Nelson told MTV:

"We actually don't have any current plans for Superman," said Nelson when asked if the new environment (and the recent legal decision regarding the character) made a "Superman" movie more or less likely in the near future... We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman," she said.

Of course this doesn't mean that there couldn't be plans tomorrow, but for now nothing is happening.

It's not a big loss as far as i'm concerned. They should work on a good solid script before going ahead on another one in my opinion.

I guess I'm first. As everyone likes to claim when they right a comment. I think this is a good thing they need to put a little more space between Superman Returns and any new Superman franchise so that it will feel more fresh. They need to start getting behind that Super Max Green Arrow project.

Okay, the first thing that bothers me is that she is referring to Supes as "property" and "it". This means that they only make movies for money. I know it's a business but if they don't make them with heart and soul then don't make them at all. If Chris Nolan puts heart and soul into making TDK, but WB didn't, then I'd go as far as saying that WB doesn't deserve that billion dollars they earned and I wish they didn't. Just becuase Returns didn't earn as much money, doesn't mean it was a bad movie. It gt fairly good reviews. If they reboot it, and Routh's not in it, I hope the movie sucks.

Not surprising...but kind of disappointing!!! I know there's always a big debate on Routh's portrayal. The movie maybe had a lot of problems. But HE could have had another shot to at least get some continuity! They did bundle RETURNS with all the "ultimate" collectors sets after all!

The should do "Superman is Dead" and re-boot it with some of the same cast!!!

I really don't understand why everyone is forgetting Dean Cain in all of this... what a travesty.
He is and will always be the best and only interpretation of the character Superman worth paying attention to.

A reboot would be fine... it would give them a chance to fix the mistakes made in Returns - things like not enough action, don't make Supes seem like a stalker, get rid of the possibility of him having a kid with Lois, get rid of Richard White and back to the real relationship between Lois & Clark/Superman, get back to the basics of the comics - good stories, good conflicts, great villians, and lots of action. Miller's involvement in Superman should be banned. He was one of the ones trying to make up weird things way outside of the comic book continuity. I don't mind some minor changes, but these are people doing things like the S-Shield that comes off to make blades. No thanks!

There's a reason Supes has lasted over 70 years... stick to what works!!!

Dean Cain as the best and only interpretation... that's a HUGE stretch in my opinion... but also recognize that (1) He's getting a bit old for the role, (2) He's not really in shape to do the role anymore, (3) he may not want to do the role anymore, (4) in my personal opinion he didn't really look the part as much as he needed to...

in my opinion, they should create a darker and grittier superman. Have him in action and show some sort of dilemma because he is the last of his kind. Keep some attributes of Superman of course, but give us something we haven't seen before. I really dont like superman, im more of a batman guy, but something fresh would help the franchise just like the batman franchise. A good director and a good writer is needed.
