Tyler Perry Can Do #1 All By Himself

September 13, 2009

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Click here for the full box office estimates of the top 12 films and then check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

Tyler Perry got his second No. 1 opener of the year with I Can Do Bad All By Myself, which earned an estimated $24 million from 2,255 theaters. Released by Lionsgate, the dramedy averaged a strong $10,656 per theater. In February, Perry's Madea Goes to Jail opened in first with $41 million, which remains the filmmaker's record so far.

Director Shane Acker's 9 took second place with $10.9 million over the weekend and the film has earned $15.3 million since opening on Wednesday. Over the Friday-to-Sunday frame, the film averaged $6,536 per location. Producer by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, the picture features the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover.

Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds continued to do well in its fourth weekend, dropping just 43.7% in ticket sales and to third place. Made for about $70 million, the war film has reached $104.3 million. Tarantino's North American record is the $108 million earned by Pulp Fiction in 1994 - a figure "Basterds" is expected to surpass soon.

The 20th Century Fox comedy All About Steve added $5.8 million in its second weekend for a total of $21.8 million, while New Line/Warner Bros.' The Final Destination rounded out the top five with $5.5 million. The fourth installment has collected $58.3 million in three weeks.

Moviegoers didn't show much interest for the other two newcomers, as Summit Entertainment's Sorority Row opened to just $5.3 million from 2,665 theaters and Warner Bros.' Whiteout took in only $5.1 million from 2,745 theaters.

The headline makes it sound like Tyler Perry just got toilet trained. Highly unlikely.

Why do people keep eating up this Tyler Perry crap? All of his movies look exactly the same.

Also, his two shows on TBS are unwatchable.

WHITEOUT : it sucked sideways!..big build up..no payoff..all it was..was stolen diamonds?! 2 hours..a soda and a bag of popcorn later..diamonds in some dead guys stitched up leg.
THE ONLY WOW MOMENT: kate is reaching over..in panties..turning the water on in the shower..camera is right up between her business..HOLY ****!! WOW!!
MY FINAL VERDICT for WHITEOUT : right into the $5 bin at wal-mart.

@ Slappy Squirrel

You can't sit there and say that all Tyler Perry's movies do well because his fans will come to them no matter what. The same goes with most movies us fan boys and movie buffs go see. When a Star Trek movie comes out, you don't think Trekkies from all over aren't gonna go see it no matter whether the movie makes sense or not? Can't we say the same thing about Harry Potter movies? Think about that before you start turning your nose up at a particular group of fans.
