Opening in New York and Los Angeles on November 25th and nationwide on December 11th, the animated comedy is set in the great city of New Orleans. The musical puts a modern twist on a classic tale, featuring a beautiful girl named Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again, and a fateful kiss that leads them both on a hilarious adventure through the mystical bayous of Louisiana. The Princess and the Frog marks the return to hand-drawn animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), with music by Oscar-winning composer Randy Newman.

Like everyone, I'm just happy that they've gone back to "traditional" Disney.

I'm a little bummed that Alan Menken didn't do the music for this, though.

Finally. I hope this will usher in the end of the sterile, emotionless wave of CGI "cartoons."

I am with you that it is both refreshing and incredible that Disney is going back to its roots, but to call movies like Toy Story, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Wall-E (to name just THE few) "sterile and emotionless", is pretty sterile and emotionless on your part.

I'm soo happy about this but left with a dissatisfied feeling, because they decide to half a-- this and not give young African American girls a African American Prince. He could of been Afro-Spanish at least geez! If they make a Latina Princess, like they should...then I want a African American Prince then, since Disney thought they'd be iono PC... Still happy bout the move, just a little annoyed is all.

@ Hollywood Agent Killer:

What are you trying to say? That african-american women should only fall in love with african-american men? Isn't it good enough that they finally come out with an african-american princess?
anyway, I am sooo excited about this and will totally be there when it comes out.

If anyone cares--I have a family friend who used to work for Disney, he worked with Kenny Ortega on the film version of Newsies, and he has told my mom that Harvey Fierstein (aka Edna Turnblad from the OBC of Hairspray) is writing the book for the musical adaptation. Post any thoughts below.

@ Recycle

I was talking about ALL CGI cartoons from ALL studios. The Pixar films are great, but everything else is garbage. I hope this movie by Disney is a hit so that other studios can start making hand-drawn animated features. I mean, remember the good old days when Disney had competition from Fox/Don Bluth and Dreamworks and their "The Prince of Egypt" and "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron"? I want those days back.
