ComingSoon.net has your exclusve first look at at the poster for director Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, which is premiering at the Venice Film Festival today (Sept. 4). Starring Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, and Alvin "Xzibit" Joiner, the crime-drama opens in theaters on November 20th.

In the film, Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs -- while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.

I'm seriously waiting for Nic Cage to start showing up in straight to shelf movies, just like Kilmer... he hasn't had a real hit in the past decade... National Treasure might be an argument but even so!

Yes Eva Mendes was in Ghost Rider. If it was Cage alone I would be more worried although I don't hate him as much as some people do. But with lovely Eva in it I have more hope for it. Especially just going off of a poster for God's sake.

the original is by far one of my favorites... Harvey Keitel really made that role his own.. wonder if Cage can do the same... probably not.. *sigh*
