Hancock 2 Screenwriters Hired

August 24, 2009

Columbia Pictures has hired screenwriters Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen Hancock 2, the sequel to the Will Smith superhero movie that grossed $624.4 million worldwide last year.

The Hollywood Reporter says the original producing team is expected to return.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the writers will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.

Fierro spent several seasons as a writer-producer on FX's "The Shield" and also worked on Fox's "24" and Showtime's "Dexter."

Mazzara was a showrunner on Starz's "Crash," wrote for NBC's "Life" and worked with Fierro on "The Shield."

I don't mind being the smartest man in the world, I just wish it wasn't this world. Full of crappy sequels to crappy movies.

Unfortunately every movie seems to have a sequel or prequel now. Maybe they are running out of ideas for new movies. Hancock was a funny film, however I do not see how it can evolve into a second film.

Why? Hancock was the biggest disappointment of a movie in a long long time... The Only reason it did so well was because it stared Will Smith.

In my opinion (which is the only one that counts lol) Hancock was a nice breather of a superhero movie last year where there were at least five other superhero movies.

The concept at the beginning where Hancock was the superhero everyone hated and was a drunk and foul-mouthed was great, lost its footing near the middle but the build up to the end was brilliant, but I do think it would be better just being on its own.

If anything a comic acting as a prequel could be good where it showed Hancock and Mary as they go through the Millenias might be good, but if they can make the story good and get Will Smith's approval then it may just work.
