McFarlane Starts Writing New Spawn Movie

"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has announced that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character.

"The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years," McFarlane said. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary."

He added that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'Departed.'"

In August of 1997, New Line released a Spawn movie that grossed $87.8 million worldwide. It starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen.

Awesome! R-Rated Spawn sounds great. I'd be careful comparing it to "The Departed" before it's done though. "The Departed" is one of the best films ever made in my opinion. But, if it's in the same vein, I am sooo down for this.

Just keep it real Todd. No weird talking clowns or anything of a similar nature.

The first one was pure cgi garbage!!! Mcfarlane still thinks he can write. Truth of the matter is-- he's a poseur!!! Spawn is very derivative! Good luck!!!

No "wierd talking clowns?" Clown is one of his characters from the comic series. Call me crazy but if he added Clown into this new flick it wouldn't completely be out of the ordinary, as "keeping it real" is exactly what he would be doing.
