Lionsgate Wants More Dirty Dancing

August 19, 2009

Lionsgate is developing a remake of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing from a new script by Julia Dahl (Uptown Girl), says Production Weekly.

The original, released in theaters by Vestron, starred Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. It was made for just $6 million but went on to earn a massive $213.95 million worldwide.

A follow-up, titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, was distributed by Lionsgate in 2004. Produced for $25 million, the movie earned just $27.7 million worldwide.

hahahahaha

oh boy. I like remakes. I really do. It's almost like seeing a play you were in or have seen performed by other people.

But this is just a silly move.

Why? Why does hollywood insist on ruining classics? LEAVE IT ALONE!!! Dirty Dancing isn't the same without Patrick Swayze and a remake would just bomb! The movie was hip, sexy, provocative, and cool for its time. The music fit the movie perfectly which is more than I can say for this day and age. In short, they are simply going to ruin a good thing and turn it into crap! STOP WITH THE REMAKES!!! Originality please!

Ok. Seriously now. As of this writing, there are no less than THREE remake headlines on the front page (Dirty Dancing, Outland and Mother's Day).

I don't blame this website - it's just reporting the stories. But this remake/reboot thing has been a farce for several months now. It's really starting to look like Hollywood is just making fun of itself. It has to be.
