Cameron, Schwarzenegger and Arnold Reteaming?

August 3, 2009

While James Cameron is working on finishing December-opener Avatar, actor/comedian Tom Arnold has been talking to The New York Times, saying that he will be reuniting with the True Lies director and co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger for a movie next year:

Still, the future project Mr. Arnold said he's most excited about is a movie with a still-to-be-determined plot and script. "All I know is Jim Cameron's making it and Arnold" — Mr. Schwarzenegger — "and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California," he said. "It's not going to be called 'True Lies II,' but it might as well be. I can live with that."

Wishful thinking or is something really brewing? True Lies, which was released in July of 1994 (has it really been 15 years already?), earned $378.9 million worldwide.

While we're naming the new terminators with gimmicky letters like X, why not use gimmicky numbers like 13 and have a new TX13 Terminator?? Yah, I can see it...

Anyway, a True Lies 2 is LONG overdue.

I'd like to get excited about this but how many years did Tom Arnold talk about True Lies II getting ready to roll "within the next year" every year for about 10 years? I'd love for it to be true, but I won't hold my breath. What I DO believe though is that we'll see Arnold back on the big screen when his term is up...

Holy **** I hope so...

I feel True Lies was Arnold's best work as an actor. (Yes, Terminator is his most famous role, but "Lies" was the film that allowed him to perform the greatest range of emotions. I'd dare say that it's the only film that lets him play a character rather than be a gimmick.)
