Is Rob Marshall Dancing His Way into Directing Pirates 4?

Source:Variety

Just one week after ComingSoon.net broke the news that Walt Disney Pictures is hoping to get the cameras rolling on the 4th "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie in April or May of next year, Variety is reporting that director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha and the upcoming musical Nine) is in talks with Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer to helm the fourth chapter in the adventures of Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. It makes sense that they would actively be looking for a director if they plan to start shooting next spring, especially with Gore Verbinski still being noncommittal about possibly returning for the fourth go-round.

While the contracts have yet to be signed, look for more news on the yet-to-be-titled PIrates of the Caribbean 4 as soon as it breaks right here on ComingSoon.net. In the meantime, let us know what you think about Rob Marshall taking on the franchise.

Bring it on, I think they need to keep this more simple this time. Thank god Knightley and Bloom won't be back. Barbosa and Jack adventure all the way.

Hard to say. Is there really another story to tell? Look at "Hannibal". Great director, but as a sequel, it took a sharp turn in tone from "Silence of the Lambs." Gore set the tone, can Rob maintain it?

They should make it a musical.

The problem with the previous Pirates sequels is that they forced into a continuous story. All we really wanted to see is Captain Jack on a new adventure and a fourth film is the perfect oppurtunity for that. I like the idea of Marshall directing. Maybe we'll get a song and dance number out of it.

Please, God no! This franchise has become Verbinski's child. Give it to Marshall and he'll have Captain Jack doing jazz hands off the ship's hull for 2 1/2 hours. "Chicago" was the biggest waste of time I've ever experienced in a theater.

I was never even a fan but the sequels ruined Rush's character. He was a decent villain who should have stayed dead or been brought back to remain a villain.

With that being said, the sequels sucked, they were overlong and overcomplicated. This will still make a bazillion dollars when it comes out though.

I don't like the sounds of this, I think Gore should come back and I heard he may be available.....I'd love the Pirate movies to continue!
