ComingSoon.net's horror-related site ShockTillYouDrop.com attended the Comic-Con press conference for New Line's upcoming relaunch of A Nightmare on Elm Street with Jackie Earle Haley taking on the role of Freddie Krueger. In attendance were Haley himself, director Samuel Bayer and producers Andrew Forma and Brad Fuller from Platinum Dunes:

The dream stalker invades Comic-Con! It was a big year at the annual San Diego expo for A Nightmare on Elm Street and iconic horror legend Freddy Krueger. He's got a new film. A facelift. And a new man beneath the makeup.

New Line rolled out a number of surprises at the show, including a slick teaser poster, that wonderfully captures the essence of the character, a photo and a teaser trailer - which will not be placed online, but you can read about it here. After the studio's presentation in Hall H, star Jackie Earle Haley, director Samuel Bayer and producers Andrew Forma and Brad Fuller joined the press to talk about the Platinum Dunes reboot.

Question: What was it like to don the sweater and hat?

Jackie Earle Haley:
Andrew Form: It was surreal for me to see you come out in it.

Haley: It was a trip. Then you add the makeup on top of the wardrobe. It was surreal.

Question: Whey was it important to keep the sweater and hat?

Haley: It's like any kind of iconic figure. There are certain symbols that make them who they are. I couldn't imagine making this movie without the sweater, the hat and the glove.

Question: Why was there a strong desire to revisit this franchise?

Form: I think, for us, the concept of this movie was one of the strongest we had ever heard. You fall asleep, you die. For Brad [Fuller] and I, it scared the heck out of us when we were kids. It was a movie we pursued for a long time. Just being able to tackle that movie, like we had done with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, Nightmare was a movie we always talked about and New Line gave us the opportunity. The concept of the film is brilliant. You got to stay awake. And if you fall asleep there's a guy who will kill you in your dreams.

I was skeptical of Samuel Bayer at first just for the fact that he's a music video director with this being his first major picture, but after reading this I have faith in him. Sounds like he knows what he's doing.

I agree, Quinn. I still think music video directors were just guys the studios threw cash at to bring in an average horror film on time and on budget, but Bayer's answers and hopeful vision for the Nightmare remake really impressed me. I hope he achieves what he's looking for. And I'm dying to see what Jackie looks like in the make-up! I could see them releasing the teaser trailer around Halloween.

I hope they build more on Freddy's character before the fire, it'd be interesting to see what Freddy was like before he invaded nightmares.

No Wes + No Rob = No go. Friday the 13th sucked balls, It was a better texas Chainsaw sequel than a Jason movie. Jason took a hostage for god sake??WTF!!

ANOES will rock....I think your way off about Friday the 13th....the box office proved it was a success and Jason didn't take a hostage, he saw his mother in the girl.

To the douche that thinks there are studio plants in the mix (lame joke, BTW, should've said 'forest' instead of 'jungle' for better effect), there are actually those that aren't so jaded on certain studio releases that they feel the need to lash out for the sheer sake of it. This movie will f***ing rock, if the leaked script is any indication.

The teaser we got to see @ Comic Con was enough to sell me on this movie. I really think that it will pay tribute to Craven rather than destroying what he created. This movie looks genuinely creepy! The new Freddy looks fantastic and real and I would be scared to meet him on the street, much less in my dreams!

Folks, who cares if he was a music video director, the best directors in firl right now have either started off as that or a commercial director. Don't you people remember what David Fincher and Zak Snyder started their careers as?
