I don't think spelling has much to do with me defining how smart you are. But hearing someone and the way they speak to people do. I don’t go to people and say hey how are you doing? Spell this for me. But I do say hey, how are you? And the way they reply can tell you something about their education.

Now Morgan, I'm sure you have said words that you couldn’t even begin to spell. Maybe like in my case mistyped the word not paying attention.
