SDCC: Kevin Smith on the Couple of Dicks Title

Kevin Smith went solo on-stage this evening in San Diego's Hall H, answering audience questions with his trademark standup comic style.

Smith did, sadly, deliver the word that his film, currently titled A Couple of Dicks will probably have to be retitled, as was rumored earlier in the year because of advertising issues. Three networks
(ABC, NBC and CBS) have refused to air ads for the film before 9pm killing, as Smith puts it, the sports audience that's his core audience.

No footage was offered, with Smith explaining that every time he shows clips in San Diego, he gets thunderous applause and then the movie tanks. His hope, he jokes, is that he can at least make a movie so bad that he'll kill the genre.

"The genre was dead," Smith mimics reviewers, "And now we're gonna bury it because fat 'Clerks.' guy made one."

Citing his biggest influence on "Dicks" as "Abbott and Costello," Smith promises, "60 percent less action than 'Lethal Weapon.'"

"And I'm talking the first one," he adds, "that had like no action whatsoever."

I've been and always will be a huge fan of Kevin Smith. I love just about every movie he has made. His "Evening" series is hilarious. I was hooked the moment I saw Clerks and haven't given up on him since. I'm probably the one and only person who liked "Jersey Girl". Stop hating so much. EVERYONE! That's all I read on hear is hate, hate, hate. No matter what the news is. Then it's like a car wreck where I start reading the comments and can't stop. The more I read the angrier I get.

There is a movie called Dic_k and a movie called Pecke_r what is the problem? The networks seriously need to lighten up.

I kind of liked Chasing Amy. But that's about it. But I like Smith as a person and I could listen to him talk about anything for hours. He is a smart and funny guy. But as a filmmaker, he sucks.

I don't get why he has to change the title... dick is another word for detective

I really hope they don't change the title. It's clever and funny and works.

Stupid advertisers.

I like Kevin Smith since Clerks first came out in 94. All of the movies are cool, not so much Chasing Amy, Good acting from Adams and Ben, Jason Lee (Banky) was great. Jersey Girl definitely his worse no matter how much you care for it.

Kevin Smith is good. He's not for everyone, but he's built himself a reputation for raunchy sex comedies. And that's fine - I thought Zack and Miri Make a Porno was one of the funniest movies last year. I'm looking forward to this movie, although he didn't write it, so it will be interesting to see what he does with someone else's material.

I think the movie is currently being filmed in Queens, New York, roughly around the Glendale and Ridgewood area. I did a double take on Kevin Smith, I said "oh ****, its Kevin Smith" and he replied "Hey, its you".

So this movie is what, a biography/documentary of Kevin Smith and Peter Jackson? Get it? A Couple of Dicks. I guess the marketing for A Couple of A**Holes would be just a little too difficult.
