New Image From Disney's Rapunzel

July 21, 2009

Planeta Disney has posted this new image from Walt Disney Pictures' Rapunzel, coming to theaters in Disney Digital 3-D.

In this new telling of the classic fairy tale, audiences will be transported to a stunning CG fantasy world complete with the iconic tower, an evil witch, a gallant hero and, of course, the mysterious girl with the long golden tresses. Expect adventure, heart, humor, and hair... lots of hair, when Rapunzel unleashes her locks in theaters for the 2010 holiday.

It looks like the same kind of style as the new movie The Princess and The Frog coming out Holiday 2009.

would be better as 2d. Think Disney should do more traditional 2d and leave pixar to concentrate on the CG

At least when Lasseter came to the studio, they jettisoned that whole 'Rapunzel: Unbraided' concept that was talked about, or some couple that are drawn into the story as both Rapunzel and the Prince. The old regime seemed dead-set on copying Dreamworks' formula for the films, given that 'Chicken Little' had that 'fairy-tale turned on it's head' vibe, or 'Meet the Robinsons' which kept advertising the wacky family when it wasn't all about them.

Oh well, it looks like Political Correctness strikes again. It seems in this day and age every classic Damsel in Distress story is becoming 'stronger and more self-sufficient'. The only damsels in distress we see anymore are pretty-boys in chick-flicks. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for equal rights and such, but good grief, why does every female in every re-made classic have to shirk the idea of being a real damsel in real distress? How much you wanna be the new Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans remake is going to be some sort of warrior-princess?

Granted I could be reading too much into that one cell...

Remember how offensive it is to the male sensibility when Xander is all-but-useless in Buffy? Know how crappy we feel when we are mere "pretty-boys in chick flicks"? Know how annoying it is that all men in Xena are fools and rapists? That's how women feel ALL THE TIME, whether they watch action movies, beauty advertisements, or awful confirmation hearings for female Supreme Court justice candidates. That is why it is not "Political Correctness" to see female characters with souls and inner strength, who do not exist only to be "rescued" or sex toys for men. It is justice. The term "Political Correctness" is overused hogwash meant to perpetuate evil. Remember when John Stewart and Hawgirl were deemed "politically correct" plants in the Justice League cartoon. And they wound up being the best characters. Go figure.
