Matthew Michael Carnahan Penning World War Z

July 17, 2009

Acccording to author Max Brooks, Paramount Pictures has brought on Matthew Michael Carnahan to adapt Brooks' World War Z, about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies.

Originally, J. Michael Straczynski penned a draft. Of Carnahan's involvement, Brooks tells Fangoria, "He's one of Hollywood's hot A-list writers, so if they went after him and paid him a mountain of gold, it definitely shows their confidence in this project."

Carnahan--brother of Joe Carnahan--also penned The Kingdom, Lions for Lambs and State of Play. Marc Forster is attached to direct World War Z.

I loved this book. The movie could be awesome if done right. Forster seems a little odd as director but maybe he will suprise us. He did okay on the last bond movie.

Loved the book, don't love Marc Foster. I loved the book "The Kite Runner" too, and Foster messed up that movie. I think he somehow got a hold of my summer reading list and is now destroying each book's film adaptation potential one-by-one. Marc Foster is pretty much the Brett Ratner of the arthouse world. He doesn't really bring any particular flair or weight to a project, he just shoots the script. This movie needs a more visionary director, maybe someone like...Joe Carnahan?

I wonder what issues they had with the Joe Straczynski draft that they replaced him? I've got that draft and maybe now it's time to read it. I'm predicting it'll be better than whatever Carnahan turns in. Unfair, yes, but just an unsubstantiated prediction.

Excellent! THat book was wonderful! More zombies! More! I just hope they keep the documentary style, since that was what made it so beleivable in a way. It sends shivers up your spine because everyone is so matter-of-fact about the zombies.

@ Hiroo

Overrated? It was a fantastic book. No idea what you are talking about. Might want to pick it up a second time and not read it as a zombie book, but as a book that tell the history of a war. DUH!

Anyway, very excited for the film. I hope they don't mess this up. Good to finally see some news coming out about this movie.
