Denzel Washington Drops Out of Unstoppable?

Variety reported on Monday that Denzel Washington had dropped out of the Tony Scott-directed Unstoppable, which will co-star Chris Pine (Star Trek). The actor was said to be looking at other projects for the fall.

The trade has updated its story, however, saying that after Washington's camp made that decision, 20th Century Fox prepared to come back to the table with a different offer that the studio hoped would entice the actor to re-consider his decision.

Washington had planned since April to re-team with Scott, this time to play a veteran engineer who jumps into a locomotive with a young conductor (Pine) to halt an unmanned runaway train filled with a toxic chemical.

Variety adds that after cutting the $107 million budget down to $100 million, Fox wanted it in the low $90 million range. The studio asked Scott to cut his salary from $9 million to $6 million, and wanted Washington to shave $4 million off his $20 million fee. Washington declined.

Scott and Denzel again? What is going on with The Warriors? We all want him to make that movie, no more trains

I don't blame Denzel for dropping out. The movie sounds boring anyway.

It's not that it sounds boring...it's that it just sounds too similar to Pelham 123 that they both did. Scott has many projects to juggle between and Denzel can always squeeze himself into a role here or there. I hope that the film does get made, with someone else though. Do want to see what Pine can do with his newfound moviestar status.

Actors are such little *****es. He's getting paid 20 million to do nothing, and he cant do without that 4 million in this economy? He should be ashamed of himself. People are out their starving to death and Washington needs that extra 4 million to get his indoor pull lined with gold. Go die in a fire.

Kind of hard to take some of you seriously when you can't even spell the word pool. It's swimming pool, not pull. And because of unions, sometimes actors can't take a paycut. Just like MLB players can't. It sets a bad precedent. Plus, it may have just been a way to get out of the movie, maybe after the script was redone the movie is going to be bad.

Oh, poor Denzel. How in the world is a human being able to live on less than 20 million!? Seriously, do they expect him to put his private rocket ship on hold or something? King Kong ain't got **** on him!

seriously would you take a 20% pay cut if you didn't have to. and to make a movie similar to one that pretty much bombed at the summer box office. come on people think and stop hatin' on denzel. pay cuts are for actors on the oscar hunt.

Stop hating. I'm tired of people saying people are starving to death out there. Really I didn't know that. You're so well informed on the world's problems. Next thing you know you'll be telling me about Aids in Africa or Genocide. That crap doesn't have anything to do with this. That's like me keeping tabs on somebody and calling them out when they call out of work sick when they are not. Saying how can you call out of work and still get paid. You know how many people are out of work and would kill to have a job. And look at you taking it for granted. Please, people have to do what's best for them. For some people it might be calling out sick when they're not. And for other people it may be not taking a pay cut to do a crappy Tony Scott movie that will probably be whole lot like the last Tony Scott movie you did.

Washington is overrated and not A-List. His films don't make the money Will Smith, Hanks or Cruise's do. He shouldn't be even getting paid 20 million a movie. More like 5-7 million tops. Taking of pelham is flopping too.

Replace Tony Scott with John McTiernan and Denzel with Eddie Murphy or some other action star and movie gets made easy.
