Warner Bros. and DC Comics Win Superman Case

Variety reports that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have won a favorable ruling in the suit filed by the heirs of "Superman" co-creator Jerome Siegel. Here are some excerpts from the ruling:

In a decision announced Wednesday, U.S. Judge District Court Judge Stephen G. Larson found that the license fees the studio paid to corporate sibling DC Comics didn't represent "sweetheart" deals as they weren't below fair market value. That means the heirs will be able seek profits only from DC Comics -- which earned $13.6 million from Warner Bros. for the 2006 release of "Superman Returns" -- rather than from Warner Bros. as well.

The judge, who conducted a 10-day bench trial, also noted that Warner Bros. chairman Alan Horn had testified that he hopes to make another "Superman" movie but added that the property wasn't under development at the studio, that no script had been written and that the earliest another "Superman" pic could be released would be in 2012.

Toberoff also asserted in a written statement that the Siegel heirs and the heirs of co-creator Joe Shuster will own the entire Superman copyright in 2013.

"The Court pointedly ruled that if Warner Bros. does not start production on another Superman film by 2011, the Siegels will be able to sue to recover their damages," Toberoff added.

Looks like Warner Bros. is gonna have to rush another Superman movie by 2011. It's going to fail. Good riddens.

Superhero movies are just washed out to me. There's nothing new to cover anymore.

lol....start can mean anything though, either way SUPERMAN is the worst made franchise and they shouldnt even bother with this crap anyways....

Unless they make a really hectic one involving Quentin Tarrantino, that could be good

But thats just my idea.... :-)

Start production by 2011 could mean, "We have a writer currently writting a new Superman Movie due out in 2028"

Ender I agree, Superman was like so 30's, wow lots of thought went into superman. Lets make a super hero, lets make him look like a poof, make him invicible, fly, and be scared of rock that looks like someone just sneezed, wow lots of imagination there. ohhhh lets give the heirs some money, what work did they do to make this very unimaginative superhero the man he is today. NONE!!!!!!!!!!! give the blood suckers nothin.

Wow another Superman movie will be in production in less than two years. Let's not forget about the next Batman movie as well. I'll bet Wonder Woman will still be in developement hell. I think WB will probably spend hundreds of millions on next Sups and Bats. That leaves our lonely amazon warrior out of movie theatres boo hoo.

I agree with Ender. Superman is too powerful for anyone to relate to in the first place. At least other superheroes have weaknesses OTHER than one little green rock, but that's about it for the man of steel. People can't tell it's Superman just by some glasses and different clothing? Lame, as always.

I've lost all hope in Hollywood. Rarely does it ever produce a worthy film.

I bet WB want JJ Abrams back and will let his direct his previous script that they originally passed on now that Star Trek is a megahit.

The concept of spelling things the way they sound is getting out of hand. "Riddens" as in Deadpool's first post = riddance.
