Norrington, Dorff Teaming on Blade Spin-Off

July 7, 2009

The Sunday Mail reported in October of 2008 that Blade director Stephen Norrington and Stephen Dorff, who played villain Deacon Frost in the film, were working on a prequel trilogy.

"It will be a prequel to the 'Blade' movies, Deacon's story," Dorff said then, "It's a new trilogy the director has created. It will cool.

"We hope to shoot the first film next year. Frost is a character I have never been able to shake."

Norrington has confirmed the news to Comics2Film, saying the project is "not exactly how the article describes but close."

The director credits Dorff with coming up with the idea for the new project, which "has evolved into a very interesting story... The linkage to 'Blade' is still big in the equation."

The original Blade, which starred Wesley Snipes, earned $131.2 million at the worldwide box office and was followed by two sequels. Norrington hasn't directed a film since 2003's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

What's the point of a blade spinoff on the villian of the 1st film?

This sounds interesting, but... wouldn't Stephen Dorff have aged too much by now to reprise his role? Especially for a trilogy.

So is this a movie about Blade or about Frost. If they do this right this could be a very cool concept. Hopefully they do it more like the first 2 movies where Blade is actually the main character instead of having him as the co-star in his own movie.

My positive response:
Definitely could be a cool movie. We'll have to wait to see if they can pull off a movie like this.

My negative response:
Oh great! More vampires.

Deacon Frost was cool, but not THAT cool. Not enough to warrant his own story. And while I would like something to make up for Blade: Trinity, this doesn't sound like a good idea, to me.

a trilogy?

so does this mean it'll follow Deacon's life and he'll in turn become a hero of sorts?

its definately a great role for Dorff, i always loved him in the first movie but yeah...hmm curious how this will play out.

and if Blade has any part it'll probably be minor, because sure there's the connection that Deacon is the one who bit his mother but considering how poorly the 3rd movie did and was received, i'm sure they sorta wanna stay away.

wouldnt be shocked if they recast Blade if he only has a tiny part.

Could be cool, the first two Blade movies were good (like II the best). I'll see it. But for now, greenlight Punisher War Journal and bring Stephenson back.
