Deadpool Will Break the Fourth Wall

Empire chatted with Ryan Reynolds and asked him an interesting question about the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off, Deadpool, in which he'll reprise his role from the "Wolverine" movie.

Reynolds says Deadpool will breach the fourth wall: "Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he's got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall"... "The studio's working on a script and trying to find a director. The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material."

A release date has not yet been set for the film.

I like Reynolds....and the character...but have major concerns about this movie...

I see it being more Fantastic Four than X-Men if you get the idea...

Scoogy, I think you are too emotionally invested in Deadpool. Ryan Reynolds did a great job all things considered. Why should they not give him the opportunity to further portray Deadpool. He is a really good actor, albeit type cast too many times. As long as the script as depth and not just eye candy, it will be a awesome because of Reynolds and not in spite of him..

...a mutant movie in which the fourth wall is breached. That just killed it for me.

Breaking the 4th wall means he will speak to the audience directly.. no other comic book character has ever done that besides Deadpool..

breaking the fourth wall is the term used when characters make references or comments about things outside their own universe, or otherwise makes a specific acknowledgement of the audience.

It can be as subtle as Cyclops' line from the first X-Men film: "What would you prefer, yellow spandex?" referencing Wolverine's unused comic book costume.

To something as obvious as somebody turning to the camera and saying "what do you think, folks?"

Deadpool's been known for both in the comics, so anything might go in a movie...

The fourth wall refers to the wall through which the audience sees the action/story unfold. Stage wise, it refers to the audience comprising the literal fourth wall of any given scene. Duh.

I am so happy about this. Deadpool rocks, and despite the mess that Wolverine was, they've promised to STICK. TO. THE. SOURCE. for this one which is good. And Ryan knows the character well.
