Ready for a View-Master Movie?

"Fringe" co-producer/writer Brad Caleb Kane will be writing a movie based on the View-Master toy, which first came on the market in 1939.

He announced on his Twitter account that after he's done penning the sci-fi action-adventure Uprising for director Wolfgang Petersen and Columbia Pictures, he will take on the project for DreamWorks Pictures.

Kane says Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ("Fringe," Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek) are behind the film and that it will be "like the old 80's Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock... In that vein."

The viewers have changed quite a bit over the years, but for a history of the toy, you can go here. Fisher-Price's official site for the View-Master is here.

I found a leak online that revealed the plot: "In a world overrun by video games and tech gadgetry, one man will challenge the system. With his magical ViewMaster, he will unite the human race and conquer all the evil tech toys of the world and teach a cynical nation how to love again." Starring Mel Gibson, some hot unknown 18 year old chick who will have onscreen sex with Mel, and Eddie Murphy as the voice of ViewMaster. Next Summer, get ready for......VIEWMASTER OF THE UNIVERSE!

let me guess, its going to be a magic View-Master that is given to a young boy by some old man dressed in rags gives it to him or he finds it in an old attic or some magic shop and when he looks in to it he is transported into where the picture had been taken so he tries other picture slides in witch he be in a magic land depending on the slide.

Nah, it'll be like national treasure where the viewmaster can undercover all sorts of secret hidden clues that are invisible to the naked eye, except it'll be a gang of kids seeking the treasure, a la Goonies.

Which actually doesn't sound that bad... hmmm... *gets out pen to write this down...*
