Ready for a View-Master Movie?

"Fringe" co-producer/writer Brad Caleb Kane will be writing a movie based on the View-Master toy, which first came on the market in 1939.

He announced on his Twitter account that after he's done penning the sci-fi action-adventure Uprising for director Wolfgang Petersen and Columbia Pictures, he will take on the project for DreamWorks Pictures.

Kane says Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ("Fringe," Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek) are behind the film and that it will be "like the old 80's Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock... In that vein."

The viewers have changed quite a bit over the years, but for a history of the toy, you can go here. Fisher-Price's official site for the View-Master is here.

I have honestly thought every game being turned into a movie that's been announced recently sounded completely plausible (whether or not they're going to be good is a whole other animal). I like to think I have a greater imagination and acceptance of others' creativity than most of the SHH/CS posters have, so it wasn't too difficult.

But this time, I'm finding it extremely hard to see what direction they'll be going. I'm guessing things come to life when you view them through the toy? They're going to have to be tremendously creative to get this one going. So we'll see...

How could this even work? I mean, there's really not any potential for a story...

are you freaking serious?....i'm with darkest knight, I thought Asteriods pushed it over the edge...but this really does it. Hollywood is going down the ****ter with these lame ass concepts. First it was all sequals (which is still the case), then remakes and remakes of remakes, and now dumb boardgames/toys? I can understand with Transformers and GIJOE cuz they're action figure toylines. But View-Master!? come on? what's next? Tinker toys, legos, Lincoln Logs, Mr. Potato Head?

Didn't the TV show Robot Chicken, do a comedy sketch about movies like this a few years a go. They came up with stiff like Hungry, Hungry, Hippos and Chutes and Ladders (Parody of Starsky and Hutch 2004 movie). I think its safe to say, Seth Green and the Robot Chicken gang called all this years ago, lol.
