Is Bill Nighy Playing Scrimgeour in Deathly Hallows?

"Harry Potter" site The Leaky Cauldron were nice enough to contact us about a story in The Independent in which actor Bill Nighy (Pirates of the Caribbean, Underworld) tells the British paper that he's just signed on to play a role in the two-part seventh "Harry Potter" installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

It's been a running thing with the actor where he has often dropped hints in interviews that he was one of the few British actors not to be cast in a role in any of the previous six films, so his nudges finally paid off.

"I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he told the newspaper. "I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig."

The Leaky Cauldron reported this casting on their "PotterCast" a few weeks back and they believe the veteran actor will be playing Rufus Scrimgeour, a veteran Auror in the Ministry of Magic who spends most of his time fighting Dark Wizards.

The first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is scheduled for release on November 19, 2010 with the second half scheduled for July 15, 2011.

I've been hoping they would find a part for him. I sorta expected him to be cast as Abeforth Dumbledore. but whatever

I'm still sad they didn't cast Judi Dench as Umbridge. That's who I pictured in my head when I read the book and I think she would have done a better job.

Yates has said the Rufus Scrimgeour has been written out of the DH script/movie, so I'm placing bets on Abeforth - that would be brilliant.

I pictured Scrimgeour as more of a heavyset guy with a wide head. (due to the Lion description)

But I think this is a great choice. He's a great actor. Looking forward to seeing him in the movies.

Scrimgeour dies fairly early on in the 7th book... I doubt Nighy could be this character if he signed on for both parts.

He's too old to play Scrimgeour I think, plus they had already said the character wouldn't be in the film...more info soon please

I was pretty sure they already had the guy who plays Aberforth in the 5th movie why would they switch characters, my guess is he is some sort of Death Eater, probably Yaxley or someone else who is in the Ministry during the Seige

Ciarán Hinds has been confirmed as Aberforth Dumbledore so my guess is Scrimgeour plus Yates has said Nighy is his first choice for Scrimgeour.
