Amy Adams is a Fighter

June 30, 2009

Amy Adams will star opposite Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale in The Fighter, which David O. Russell is directing for Relativity Media and Paramount.

The drama revolves around the life of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and trainer-brother Dick Eklund (Bale), chronicling their early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., through Eklund's battle with drugs and Ward's eventual world championship in London.

Adams will play Charlene, a tough, gritty bartender and former college high-jumper from Massachusetts who ends up dating Mickey.

Melissa Leo also has been cast as Wahlberg and Bale's mother.

The movie begins shooting next month in Lowell.

meh. Marky Mark isn't the greatest of actors (only looking forward to lovely Bones because of Jackson and Sarandon) plus I'm am really completely and utterly OVER Christian Bale. He does the same voice in every movie now.

But, Amy Adams. That's nice.

I'm in agreement with you Calum. Bale is so out there that I'm sick of seeing him in every movie. He's a good actor and all but I think he needs a summer off and then come back in the next year with a kickass Batman. And why would anyone care about some ex boxer? This project will die a quick death at the box office. This is nothing more than oscar bait.

wahlberg said in an interview that he had be working out trying to stay in shape for this movie for the last 3 or 4 years and he wasnt even sure if it was going to get made.

I have to ask - who goes to see this crap? I'm so, so bored of Bale, and Mark Walberg needs to retire (he's never been worth watching, IMHO). Adams is fantastic, though.

that what most people were saying about cinderella man and look how good it did this sounds like a winner to me and if you ask me i say walberg can act i just think he doesn't at times choose his movie roles well

I guess you guys are dissing Bale because you didn't like 'Terminator: Salvation', but he's definitely not boring. Maybe you're confused by his overexposure in the media earlier this year, something that he's always tried to avoid. But he only makes one or two movies a year. Before Terminator he hadn't been in anything since 'The Dark Knight', which was great, and before that he was in "I'm Not There", another good movie, and before that "3:10 to Yuma", another good movie. He's appeared in 4 movies in the past 2 and half years, and his fifth one, 'Public Enemies', looks great too. Oh yeah, and the voice he "keeps using" worked within the logic of the 3(!) films he's used it in (2 of which in he played the same character). Not to mention, lots of actors, for instance Will Smith and Tom Cruise, use the same voice in nearly EVERY movie they make!
Anyway, I think Bale is extemely talented, and I just find it unfortunate that everyone turned on him after one movie.

this might've been better since aronovsky directed it, like he was supposed to.
