Last week, it was announced that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay is on board to produce and possibly direct I Am Number Four for DreamWorks Pictures.

The project is based a on a six-book science fiction book series, of which one of the writers is James Frey, best known for writing "A Million Little Pieces."

The only plot details that were revealed was that the franchise is about a group of nine earthbound alien teens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a hostile species. While the high school-aged kids assimilate, the title character discovers that he is being hunted by the enemy that blew up his planet.

FilmDrunk dug up a more detailed synopsis of the project:

The protagonist is 15. The rival race of aliens are from the planet Mogadore. They destroyed Lorien in order to strip the planet of its natural resources because Mogadore was dying, and still is, and they followed the Loric to Earth to finish the job. The Loric develop their "Legacies" (special powers) around their fifteenth year. This first book is a kind of love story. At its core it's a type of father/son alone in the world, always moving to stay alive story, a lá The Road."

Will this be the next project Michael Bay takes on?

Oh God, it's like the sci-fi version of Twilight, only that it sounds worse.

And why do aliens have teenagers? You'd think that with the ability to travel between stars they got past the teen angst phase of evolution.

Where in that synopsis did you see anything about teen angst?

It's a movie about aliens living a teenage life and you don't expect any angst?

And they pee on people, wave their testicles and get high while dogs hump...

Sorry. That was "Transformers".

Nope. Because I think their ability to travel between stars helped them get through their angst.

And I think you meant to say evolution helped get them past the angst phase of life. But no matter how evolved a species, they've gotta make it through their teen years at some point (ignoring the fact that every planet's year is different).

I'm just keeping an open mind here. It could be cool to see aliens with powers defend our planet. Or it could suck, you might be right.

What I'm more worried about is James Frey writing anything. Nobody should have every given that man another pen. It still blows my mind that anybody got through 10 pages of MLP and actually thought any of it was true.

As long MBay's answer to most problems in this film is not "explosions," I think he should do okay.
