IESB reports that 20th Century Fox has hired writer Kyle Ward to write the sequel to 2007's Hitman, which made almost $100 million worldwide.

The first film, based on the video game, was directed by Xavier Gens and stars Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott, Olga Kurylenko, Robert Knepper, Ulrich Thomsen and Michael Offei.

Adrian Askarieh, Daniel Alter and Chuck Gordon will return as producers.

Ward wrote the upcoming Bruce Willis-starrer Kane & Lynch and also penned Fiasco Heights for Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes.

Stop it Fox. Hitman and Max Payne were both critically panned and I thought it was mediocre. You just made Dragonball and Street Fighter. The two worst movies of the year. Then you made Wolverine, which seemed like a really weak attempt at another X-men so another huge disappointment. Fox only has Avatar left.

I honestly didn't think hitman was that bad, but I don't think it needs a followup either.

that's cool - i figured it wasn't happening since it took a while to confirm a sequel. usually they like to announce a sequel right away.

however, looking at the past, sequels to videogame movies typically do worse business then the first movie. not enough care is put into these franchises.

Resident Evil is the only exception I believe - making more money with each movie, and the only videogame movie to make it to three movies, and they're making a fourth as well.

if this hitman 2 has any chance, they need to get olyphant back in the role and build on it, a new actor may put off the fans of the previous movie and lead to nobody seeing it (like Punisher:WarZone)
