Walt Disney Pictures has debuted the new trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo, opening in theaters on August 14.

The film's story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." Already a box-office success in Japan, the story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by Noah Cyrus) and her quest to become human features the voices of Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, Betty White and Frankie Jonas as Sosuke, a young boy who befriends Ponyo.

this is why Americans can't appreciate international films ( and why they will always be better than the American remakes)

Idiots don't like to read subtitles...

This was a great movie when i saw it in Japan back when I visited my nephew a few months back. Too bad it was thrown in the backburner. Then again so was The Dark knight in Japan last year...

I've always loved every Miyazaki' movie. But when I saw this one, to me it wasnt as great as the others. Maybe cause the story its too simple and targeted at kids than for example Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. The animation and details are great tho.

howl's moving castle was one of those movies that played my heart strings. same goes for spirited away and pretty much everything he's made. cant wait for this

I'm going to enjoy this...it seems to be more in line with My Friend Totoro, I'm guessin', more kid-friendly though Spirited Away has that in spades too. Fun times.

of course its aimed at kids. if it wasnt, there'd be no chance anyone would want to watch it. by the way, Jon ur totally right about us americans hating subtitles.

To jon,
American movies today suck because of the great decline in the importance of film. Film is no longer important, its all about the actors and who they are fckin. There is no room for story or plot structure bc an actors ego takes up too much room

i wish they could make something else, with more of a princess feel, or valley of the wind.
