Julianne Hough Confirmed for Footloose

We guess these screen tests went well, as "Dancing with the Stars" pro dancer and country singer Julianne Hough has now landed the lead female role in Paramount's remake of Footloose. The casting is contingent on the studio and Hough working out scheduling, but she would star opposite Chace Crawford.

Filming is set to begin in March with plans for a "more mature version" than the original, says Variety. Dylan Sellers is producing alongside Ortega, Craig Zadan -- a producer of the original film -- and Neil Meron.

Kenny Ortega, helmer of all three "High School Musical" films, will direct.

more mature? topless me thinks...not gonna happen...and i think kevin bacon will have too much dignity to show his face...now a tremors remake with bacon is more up his alley

oh the humanity. why can't Hollywood leave classics alone and come up with something original for once? Thank god for Disney/Pixar and their films, at least they're imaginative, and all of them have been excellent.

"why can't Hollywood leave classics alone" Do you remember the same movie I do? This movie was crap unless you were between 12-18 when it came out. John Lithgow ham-boning it up. The local yokel learning to dance. Playing chicken with tractors. Just Awful.

If Hollywood wants to re-make lousy movies - go right ahead. Just leave the great ones alone.

I hope they don't turn it into a musical. Footloose wasn't a musical. It just had a good soundtrack. The characters didn't sing.

I've heard that Hollywood is thinking about remaking High School Musical.

I think that would be hawt. You cast Brad and Angelina's youngest as the lead. Through in Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes spawn, and you got a hit on you hands.

They are also thinking of remaking this new Footloose movie. It's being fast-tracked.

I can't wait to see it.
