SCI FI Wire talked to Green Lantern screenwriter Marc Guggenheim on the status of the Martin Campbell-directed comic book adaptation, which Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled for a June 17, 2011 release. Here's a clip:

"In fact, I'm ... delivering another draft today," Guggenheim (TV's Flash Forward) said in an exclusive interview on Friday. "So it continues to move forward."

The film is expected to be directed by Martin Campbell, who stepped in for Berlanti, and is slated to begin production at Australia's Fox Studios in Sydney this summer for a release on June 17, 2011.

Guggenheim confirmed that his script will focus on Hal Jordan, based on the Silver Age DC Comics incarnation of the superhero, and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

I'm actually getting sick and tired of seeing nothing but Hal Jordon in all these recent incarnations. Wouldn't mind seeing Kyle or Alan.

If Henry Cavill beefs up,he would be good for this part.

This is the first live action feature film for Green Lantern. It has to start with Hal Jordan. It doesn't need a black Green Lantern to be cool.

Personally, I'm glad they're starting with Hal, he's the first GL. But if they're smart (yea, Hollywood smart) they would do each sequel with every GL in chronological order. That would solve all kinds of issues. First, they don't have to sign whoever's going to be Hal but to one Sequel (just to pass the ring to the next GL and that's it) second, it would please those who have their favorite GL. That would be the best idea. As I look forward to this movie and trust Martin Campbell, GL is like Iron Man in regards to fan base. For it to survive it's got have something different going for it and changing each GL with each movie would give it legs.

No... if they were wise, they'd simply do a BASIC origin story showcasing a brief history of the Guardians and the rings themeselves. Also, obviously show Hal's piloting skills and the history with his father and Abin Sur. The first movie would show Hal still under the wing of Sinestro, being trained by Sinestro and Kilowog. That way, it would build up Hal and Sinestro's positvie relationship (for it to be more devestating when perhaps one of them goes rogue?). Also, this would allow Hal to "train" and practice with his ring potentially fighting petty thugs and criminals on Earth. Bringing the story to Earth a little bit (with some space training and fighting) with this first movie will allow viewers to be able to relate to the character more and enjoy Hal more. This will be more of a coming to terms story, dealing with the torments of Hal's father's death, the power and control of the Guardians, and a hinting of Sinestro's methods of "patrolling" his sector. Like Hal had to do, this first movie will be him getting used to the ring and overcoming an enemy at the end, maybe with Sinestro's help.

THE SECOND movie would then start with Hal and Sinestro being the best Lanterns in the universe and showcasing the turning of Sinestro into a tyranic monster. This movie will be a revelation of friends, foes, and a sad tale of Hal being stabbed in the back. And what better way to end this battle with Hal and Sinestro taking to the stars and duking it out at full force.

Yeah, like there are so many starving black actors out there. Whoever they pick, black, white, or asian (Jett Lee?) it will be someone who lives in a mansion and doesn't wear the same socks twice.

All those who are expecting something along the lines of Iron man are going to be very disappointed. All the fans of Green Lantern should go into the film expecting the worse, that way, if it stinks *cough 'Wolverine' cough* then you won't be so disappointed. I'm hoping they get it right, but I'm not holding my breath.
